What To Look For In An Under Desk Bike
Before you click “add to cart,” consider these key features that make under desk bikes more effective, comfortable, and user-friendly.
- Foot Straps: If you’re a biking newbie, Roser says that foot straps are key for safety and efficiency, because without the foot straps, your knee can move too much laterally, potentially causing injury.
- Display Screen: It can be helpful to know your workout stats, so Roser says to opt for a bike with a monitor to track your distance, time, and calories burned. Some models connect with an app to show stats.
- Adjustability: Look for easy adjustments, because it’s important to correctly match the seat and pedals of the bike to your height, says Roser. If the bike is too small and/or too short, you’re at risk for injury and discomfort, just like a regular bike. Also, don’t forget to measure the height of your desk because you don’t want to hit your knees as you pedal.
- Padded seat: If you’re looking for a bike that includes a desk or seat, you want to make sure it’s comfortable. “Having a padded seat will help you want to workout longer, and keep you pain-free, so look for a bike that feels comfortable to sit on for a long period of time,” explains Roser.
- Resistance: It’s best to select a bike that has at least four resistance levels, says Roser. This will allow you to select your intensity based on your needs and goals, while also giving you room to challenge yourself and build strength.
- Weight: If you’re planning on moving the bike around your home, find something that is lightweight and portable. Some bikes come with a carrying strap while others collapse or fold for easy storage and relocation. If your bike is super lightweight, it may not be suitable for carpet (less stable) without an additional floor mat.
- Noise: Most bikes are pretty silent with smooth and quiet pedal strokes, by design. If you plan to use the bike during meetings or in a group office setting, select a bike that is designed with additional noise blocking features.
